Wow! The House of Sandeman really does it right. My wife & I stayed here in a private room for 3 nights during our Porto visit. The location in Villa Nova de Gaia is awesome…right on the Duoro river with great views across to Porto and several bridges. You’re within walking distance to all the port wine lodges and great food. And it’s a nice walk across the main steel bridge or you can take the water taxi right out front over into Porto. The staff were just so friendly and helpful. They can help you book a port tour at the Sandeman wine cellars for a bit of a discount and it’s just next door from the hotel. The breakfast was great. And the rooms, lobbies and common areas all have comfortable and cool amenities. The place is sparkling clean. It was a great value for the money. We’d definitely stay here again.

Stayed for 3 nights on our trip to Porto. This was the best choice we could have made. The Sandeman suites were next level in ambience and breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Beautiful rooms and very nice staff. In particular Mata was really helpful and friendly. Meeting the other guess at breakfast was an extra bonus to the trip if you feel like a chat or making a lone travellers day. We used the cooking facilities couple times for dinner and was well stocked with pots and pans etc.. Looking back over to Porto from Gaia was really great and not far to walk everywhere. getting a taxi on the day we left early in the morning was not a problem either. The Port tasting at Sandeman was really enjoyable and next door.

This place was the best hostel for the same price i paid in other cities. I have been to 5 hostels during this trip in Spain and Portugal. Team is great. Unfortunatelly i didn't ask the name of the gentlemen at the reception but he is very accommodative and valuable Sandeman teammember. All speak English very well which makes communication simple and clear. Very picturesque view from dining room window and atmosphere is relaxing and calming. They have welcome drink, also tea time for free. Breakfast is great!

Fantastic suite room with sash windows overlooking the river and promenade where artists sell products. So close you could almost speak to people from the open window. Staff were motivated to make us feel comfortable and readily offered advice on things to see and do. Loved the relaxed feel of the place. Even borrowed the sandeman e bikes with thick rubber tyres. So easy to use and explore as far as the beaches. Port tours right underneath us with the special 1790 tasting which was awesome

Overlooking Porto’s River and city, near lots of restaurants. I only had 10 hours in Porto and wanted to be in a central location to make the most of it. Not only is it central, but the views from the common area are amazing. The hostel is beautifully designed, even the 14 bed rooms felt spacious and comfortable. I also couldn’t stay for the free breakfast, but they were so kind they packed it for me to take out. Highly recommend staying here for a night or a week!
